Refrigerator Cards; Tilting Bridge; Stabbing Teens; Movie Star; More Prayer; Tianenmen Square and Shopping Carts

Another nice warm day in Maryland.  The sun is playing "peek-a-boo", but is seen more often than not.  I took a bundle of medication refrigerator cards to the Senior Aged and Disabled office, because one of the area's senior care organizations asked for them.  If used properly, they can save lives.  We've been giving them out from our TRIAD group for years.

Travel

A major Rte 495 bridge near Wilmington, Delaware, has been closed because its support pilings have begun to tilt.  This has caused a major traffic jam throughout the east coast.  My late wife's nephew wants to visit his relatives in Maryland, and will be driving a rented recreational vehicle the 400+ miles to where we live.  However, I'm afraid he is going to encounter hours of backups and detours because of the bridge problem.  But, its better to be safe than having a doggone bridge fall down, along with cars and trucks.

Ka-Boom!

Bomb making material was found in a Social Media expert's apartment in San Francisco.  Part of this was ball-bearings, screws and other things designed to maim and kill people.  I wonder why they were searching his apartment.  A tip?

Impressionable

The two 12 year-old girls who stabbed another 12 year-old in the woods, did it to please a fictional character named Slender-Man.  Information and purchasing items on Slender-Man can be found on the internet @creepypasta.com.

A Star

Movie actress, Rosalind Russell, was born today in 1907.  She was the beautiful lady who appeared in 41 or more  movies.. most memorable: Auntie Mame.  A phrase of Auntie Mame's is framed and hanging on my den wall:

"Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!"

Prayer Again

NARFE acquaintance and fellow Social Security employee, Ron Bowers, in a letter to the Baltimore Sun, has a lot to say about prayers at Government meetings, and at the end of his letter he quotes Jesus: "Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them...And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites for they love to stand and pray (in public places) where they may be seen."

China Necessities

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Tianenmen Square protest (1987).  Somebody said that the reason for the protest was that China had stopped price control and the cost of necessities went out of sight.  They also said that protests go on all the time in China, but we seldom hear about them.

U.S. Necessities

Shopping carts were invented on this day in 1939.  Just think about how it would be if they had not been invented.  People would be starving to death.
